Hemis National Park is located in the eastern Ladakh region of the state of Jammu & Kashmir, popularly known for its great heights, and was established in 1981 to protect the decreasing population of wildlife. This area was named after the famous monastery-Hemis Gompa, a 400-year-old Buddhist monastery.
